Father, You are intimately acquainted with all my desires. There is nothing I ever asked You before You knew what it was. But still, there is always this bold invitation to come to You? To come and pour out my heart to You. You satisfy, Father. You satisfy more than I ever thought was possible. I always believed that You are enough; o God, thank You for giving me an opportunity to live out these words: My God is enough. My God satisfies all my needs. My God meets all my desires. O Father, what a glorious privilege that I forever get to be Yours? To know deep to my core that You will never change Your mind about me; to know that Your love will forever pursue me until Heaven with You.
Thank You God for the nails that were pierced in Jesus’ flesh; those nails paved the way for my freedom to come to You unashamed at all times. O God, please, never let me take the cross for granted. Help me Holy Spirit never forget the cost of my salvation. Calvary. O, Calvary. The blood that you swallowed freed the whole world, that whoever believes in the name of Jesus Christ may indeed be saved. Hallelujah
Like You
“When You did awesome things which we did not expect,
You came down, the mountains quaked at Your presence.
For from days of old they have not heard
or perceived by the ear,
Nor has the eye seen a God besides You,
Who acts in behalf of the one who waits for Him.
You meet him who rejoices in doing righteousness,
Who remembers You in Your ways.
Behold, You were angry, for we sinned,
We continued in them a long time; and shall we be saved?
For all of us have become like one who is unclean,
And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment;
And all of us wither like a leaf,
And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
But now, O Lord, You are our Father,
We are the clay, and You are our potter;
And all of us are the work of Your hand.” Isaiah 64:3-6,8
As we wait for God to answer our prayers, do we truly understand who we are praying to and who we are waiting for? Sure, as Christ-followers we can easily nod and say, duh, we are waiting for God. How we wait on God is more telling than our answers! How come, you ask?
Are you waiting on God without wavering?
Are you waiting on God by continually praying?
Are you waiting on God expectantly with joy?
I know there are many times I have waited on God with much wavering; I know there are also times I have stopped praying for something because “I couldn’t see what my prayers were accomplishing”. How foolish of me, I know. And God knows there are times I have waited for Him with not much joy. O God, please forgive me for all the times I have been of little faith. O Holy Spirit, how can I thank You for growing me in my faith! God, You are mighty faithful!
As you wait for God to answer you, pray that your heart grows in your desire for God lest the long-awaited for answers become idols in your heart and in your life. Isn’t that what happens when we stop praying because we are not seeing any answers? Think about it. If I am going to God only because I want Him to answer my prayers, I will surely stop going to Him because He is not doing what I want Him to do; and sadly, this means our love for God is conditional. I love God because He fulfills His part of the bargain.
Ultimately, we should focus on God’s will in us and through us as we wait for Him.
O God, help us! Please help us be a people who desire You more than we desire and pray for the works of Your hands. O, God, help us! Only You can make our love for You genuine and wholehearted! Only You God. God, we are the clay, we are dust, but You are the potter. You know what You are molding in us each season, each day, each minute of our breathing. Father, please help us to trust You. Help us to honor You in our hearts and literally in every fiber of our being.
God, we desire You as we wait for You. Whether You answer or not, God, You are the sole desire of our hearts.
As we pray
What is the posture of your heart as you pray? Humble? God doesn’t owe us anything. This is worth repeating in our western culture. God doesn’t owe us anything! Second, does your heart have a surrendered posture? God is the one who ultimately decides if our prayers will be answered or not. “Whatever the Lord pleases, He does, in heaven and in the earth, in the seas and in all deeps. He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; who makes lightning for the rain, who brings forth the wind from His treasuries” (Psalms 135:6-7). When our prayers go unanswered it’s so tempting to think God doesn’t care or that He is too busy. O, how we are wrong!
“Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him,
On those who hope for His lovingkindness,” Psalms 33:18
Our God sees our hearts’ prayers before we even open our mouths! As we pray, and as we wait, let’s fully put our hope in Him and eagerly wait for His lovingkindness.
The below is a Puritan prayer, and as we pray may our eyes behold what our God is always doing, which is sanctifying us for His glory.
The Valley of Vision
“Lord, high and holy, meek and lowly,
You have brought me to the valley of vision,
Where I live in the depths but see You in the heights;
Hemmed in by mountains of sin I behold You glory.
Let me learn by paradox
That the way down is the way up,
That to be low is to be high,
That the broken heart is the healed heart,
That the contrite spirit is the rejoicing heart,
That the repenting soul is the victorious soul,
That to have nothing is to possess all,
That to bear the cross is to wear the crown,
That to give is to receive,
That the valley is the place of vision.
Lord, in the daytime stars, can be seen from
Deepest wells,
Deepest wells,
And the deeper the wells the brighter
Thy stars shine;
Let me find Your light in my darkness,
Your life in my death,
Your joy in my sorrow,
Your grace in my sin,
Your riches in my poverty
Your glory in my valley.”
“The steadfast of mind You will keep in peace,
because he trusts in You.
Trust in the Lord forever,
For in God the Lord, we have an everlasting
Rock.
Indeed, while following the way of Your
judgments, O Lord,
We have waited for You eagerly;
Your name, even Your memory, is the desire of our souls.
At night my soul longs for You,
Indeed, my spirit within me seeks You diligently;…” Isaiah 3-4, 8-9
Father, my heart desires You.
In Jesus’ name, as long as there is breath in me, I will seek You diligently.
Father, truly? I get a forever with You?
A forever with You. My heart beams, Lord. My heart beams at Your lovingkindness. I am Yours.
